This holiday weekend, Hayden & I headed up to our good friend’s mountain house right outside Blowing Rock, NC for a getaway with four other couples. Though I typically consider myself a beach person, there is something about the fresh mountain air that gets me every time.
Friday was spent catching up with everyone & indulging in a homemade “wine tasting.” Everyone was instructed to bring a bottle of wine for the event which was then covered with a brown paper bag and labeled with a number. We then took our turns tasting each of the bottles and guessing the type & price of the bottles. It was funny to see that some of the most favored bottles were some of the most affordable picks (looking at you Trader Joe’s “two buck chuck,” otherwise known as Charles Shaw.)
Saturday morning was a lazy one. Everyone slept in and woke to the smell of bacon and eggs on the stove thanks to another couple who took on supplying breakfast for the weekend. After we spent the morning filling our hungry selves, we changed and headed out to Twisted Falls. The hike was dangerous but the views were spectacular. Everyone hiked another iffy trail to fulfill their daredevil side and slide down the tall waterfall. I, on the other hand, wasn’t feeling as adventurous. Someone had to be the photographer, right?
Saturday evening was a struggle as everyone was exhausted from the sun and hikes of the day. We took it easy and participated in a corn hole tournament and good, old-fashioned grilled out dinner embracing the American spirit of the weekend.
Because of an early night Saturday, we were up early Sunday and ready to head to Watauga Lake for a day on the boat. We couldn’t have asked for better weather over the weekend. What we thought was going to be rain turned into the perfect day.
A long day on the boat meant for a late night back, we left the mountains Sunday night in order to get back for a day of R&R (and some work) before starting this short but hectic week.
While it is going to be a tough one, it’s nice to start the week off surrounded by some of your best friends. There is nothing good spirits, good weather, and a mountain breeze cant calm down.
How did you spend your holiday weekend?
